We are pleased to announce the completion of a landmark project to categorize the entire global internet, which lasted nearly four years. This project resulted in the creation of technology and a classified database of websites in all registered second-level DNS domain zones. All sites of higher-level domains that could be identified were also included. In total, over 250 million domain records were processed.
The research was conducted in all languages of the world, and the classification was based on 78 categories. “Now I can accurately say how many websites belong to each category worldwide,” says Denis Zhernov, CEO and founder of iAdmin. “Are adult sites the majority? Not at all!” Detailed global statistics on website distribution are available in the verification service https://www.iadmin.biz/check/
iAdmin URL is now one of the largest category databases among global providers in terms of actual website coverage.
The iAdmin URL categorizer can replace any third-party solution without losing filtering quality or even improving it depending on the solution being replaced. The category database provides virtually 100% classification of visited websites by DNS names, as unknown upstream domains will be classified by their second-level domain.
The resulting category database will soon be available in all iAdmin products and can be used in any IT infrastructure to filter negative or unwanted content or for category-based monitoring. For example, in DLP systems, providers, and third-party software. The category database can be connected to any web proxy server via the ICAP protocol.
